Achieving consistency in golf hinges upon establishing solid fundamentals. One fundamental of importance is the role of the lower body in dictating the swing mechanics. Many effective drills can be employed to cultivate this foundational aspect. Among these, one great drill involves swinging the club halfway back to a parallel position, transitioning into the downswing through the ball, and into a full, balanced finish.
It's recommended to use a 7 or 8 iron for this purpose. Starting with the ball teed up is suggested, especially during the initial stages of practice. This approach has proven to provide significant benefits when learning new techniques or refining swing-related issues. Optimal ball positioning is at the midpoint of the stance. Using the legs and hips guide the club back to a parallel alignment, transition and swing through the ball, ultimately concluding in a full, balanced finish.
We aren't looking for distance here. Just learning to use the lower body to power the swing and swing on plane. A proficient execution of this technique should result in a trajectory that is either straight or a slight draw. Refine this method through targeted practice sessions, both in the form of hitting into a net or at a driving range.
