Updated: Oct 11, 2023

A rangefinder can prove beneficial as you advance in your game and begin to strategize and plan your way around the course.

The market offers plenty of options, making the selection process potentially frustrating, especially when trying to strike a balance between quality and cost-effectiveness. This review aims to alleviate the frustration and time typically associated with research by offering a product we feel is superior for the price.

First Impressions

I recently had the opportunity to test the CIGMAN CT800Y laser rangefinder, and I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance, especially considering its affordable price of $79.99. At the time of this review Amazon had a $20 coupon you could apply bringing it down to $59.99! The unit lived up to my expectations, proving accurate up to 300 yards the longest range I tested, aligning closely with my $300 Nikon range finder.

My testing

I played 18 holes using the rangefinder. Also, let my playing partner use it since he didn't have one. I shot distances out to 300 yards and as close as 15 yards. The rangefinder was accurate at all these distances.

Pros and Cons

One standout feature is the magnetic mount strap that comes with it, which firmly secures the rangefinder to the cart bar. The magnet is strong, providing a reliable and secure grip.

Additionally, the ability to toggle slope adjustment on and off adds versatility to the device, adapting playing conditions.

The flagpole mode was particularly impressive, locking onto the flag and providing both vibration and visual cues for confirmation.

While the rangefinder lacks the stabilization feature present in my Nikon, it's a minor trade-off given its overall performance.

In slightly shaded or darker green areas, the visual cues were a tad harder to discern, but this was not a significant issue.

One of the remarkable aspects of the CT800Y is its long-lasting battery life. After a full 18 holes, the battery remained at 100%. The rechargeable feature, coupled with the included charging cord, ensures that the device remains powered throughout your golfing sessions.

The Final Score

I've been playing golf a long time and used several rangefinders. I haven't found one that tops my Nikon with stabilization but at 3X's less cost this rangefinder is absolutely worth it. On Amazon it has 4.7 out of 5 stars with 181 reviews. I would certainly agree with this.

The package also includes a carrying case for easy transport and protection.

The CIGMAN CT800Y boasts an impressive set of specifications, including 6x magnification, a compact size of 3.62 x 2.76 x 1.38 inches, and a lightweight build at 152 grams.

In conclusion, the CIGMAN CT800Y laser rangefinder is a standout product in its category, offering exceptional accuracy, durability, and a feature set that matches or surpasses many higher-priced competitors. If you're in the market for a reliable rangefinder, especially for golfing purposes, I wholeheartedly recommend considering the CIGMAN CT800Y—it's an excellent value for the price and is sure not to disappoint.
